Series starts
In this 6-week course, we’ll focus on enhancing your understanding of perspective, design, and color, while continuing to explore materials and creative project building.
Artist Level: Beginning to Intermediates
Drawing 102 is designed for students who have a handle on the basics taught in Drawing 101 and are ready to deepen their skills.
Day 1 – Perspective and Scale
You will learn how to create depth and proportion in your work. We will cover topics such as the use of one-point, two-point, and atmospheric perspective to bring realism and drama to your drawings, plus how to manipulate scale to influence composition.
Day 2 – Introduction to Color Theory
You will be introduced to color. We will overview terms and topics including color theory, tint, hue, saturation, color wheel, color harmonies, and color palettes. With limited tools, you will learn how to add color to your drawings.
Day 3 – Principles of Design
Discover the core principles of design — like balance, contrast, emphasis, rhythm, and unity — to make your art not just technically sound but visually captivating. You’ll explore how these principles can guide your compositions and elevate your creative intent.
Day 4 – Dry Media and Materials Deep Dive
Go beyond pencil and paper. We’ll explore a variety of dry media including colored pencils, charcoal and hard pastels. Learn layering techniques, blending methods, and which materials work best for different effects and styles.
Day 5 – Final Project Prep
Time to bring it all together. In this session, you’ll begin designing your final project, integrating perspective, color, design principles, and materials into one cohesive piece. This is your chance to plan, sketch, and troubleshoot with guidance.
Day 6 – Final Project
The climax of Drawing 102! Complete and refine your final artwork. This session is all about applying everything you’ve learned, showing off your skills, and celebrating how far you’ve come.

We remain dedicated to making art education as accessible as possible. Every dollar donated over the suggested amount creates opportunities for those in need.
If you feel you are unable to pay the amount below and would still like to attend, we invite you to apply for our needs-based seats. Please follow these steps:
We want to make sure that every dollar you spend on class fees goes as far as it can to support those who need it most. By asking for a needs-based application, we’re able to confirm that the reduced cost is going to individuals facing genuine financial challenges. This simple process helps us ensure fairness—that resources aren’t inadvertently used by those who are in a stronger financial position—and it gives us valuable insights into the needs of our community.
In gathering this information, we can learn more about the challenges you and others face, which in turn helps us tailor our programs and advocate for better support. Rest assured, your details are kept strictly confidential, and our goal is always to create an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone has access to quality classes at a fair price. We appreciate your understanding and trust as we work together to make our community stronger.
