Each month we dedicate time to spotlight a different artist – celebrating their work, sharing their creative journey, and learning from their unique perspective. Whether you’re a practicing artist or just beginning your journey, these moments of connection and discovery are at the heart of what FADE is all about.

    Meet the Artist

    Rachel Lawson (she/her) is a self-taught artist based in Johnson City, Tennessee, working across alcohol marker, acrylic, and digital mediums. Her art is a joyful rebellion—infused with playfulness, tenderness, and a bold refusal to let the weight of the world diminish her sense of wonder. “I want people to look at my art and smile,” she says. “I like fun things that remind us of the light-heartedness that is still left in the world.”

    Inspired by community and the radical act of joy in the face of pressure, Rachel’s work explores themes of softness, silliness, and nonconforming femininity. She proudly embraces her identity within the LGBTQ+, autistic, and ADHD communities, and actively contributes to local creative networks including FADE Initiative, Passionflower Markets, and JC Public Art.

    A regular participant in FADE.JC’s classes and events, Rachel describes her creative motto simply:

    “Trust the process; it is rebellion to make art.”

    Meet the Artist

    Jeana Jessie (she/her) is a self-taught acrylic painter based in Johnson City, Tennessee. With fewer than five years of professional experience, Jeana brings a fresh, vibrant perspective to her work. Artistically, she stands “one foot firmly in realism and the other in vivid color selection,” using her paintings to express the brightness and optimism she sees in the world around her.

    Her work is inspired by determined, joyful women—a reflection of her own story as a strong, independent woman and former Navy officer. Through expressive color and confident brushwork, Jeana captures powerful moments of feminine strength and grace.
